A poem about a viking voyage
Upon the blue, frothy waters
Our boat did heave, to and fro
The captain yells from the bow
Where we’re headed, no one knows

The clouds darken on horizon
The winds blow frigid cold
The waves buck and throw us forward
Thirteen men both strong and bold

Lightning clashes and lights the heavens
Rains fall hard, straight through to bone
Thirteen men on grand adventure
Pray to Odin we make it home

Dream of home, our sons and daughters
Wives, beer, hearth, and soothing lyre
Bring with us our stolen treasures
Emerald forests and ruby fire

“Land!” is heard from the starboard
Yells and laughter fill the air
A castle stands upon the cliffs
We sing praise to Freya as we prepare

Don our armor, shields, and axes
Swords and spears thirst for blood
The sun now shines upon our standard
Caked with salt and bits of mud

Find a river, unsuspecting
The moon now conquers the star filled sky
Row upstream and find a landing
At morning light our enemy dies

Caught them as they ate their breakfast
Still half asleep from last night’s drink
Hit them fast with all we could muster
The fight was over before they could think

Plunder and pillage gold and furs
Emeralds and rubies for every knave
We take their iron and their women
To work the fields as our slaves

The ship is filled and we cast off lightly
Songs to Freya still echo loud
The sun is high and the wind is sweet
The sky is blue without a cloud

We dream of home, our sons and daughters
Wives, beer, hearth, and soothing lyre
Bring with us our stolen treasures
Emerald forests and ruby fire
