A man who has never failed probably never tried
King of Nothing

I am a king of nothing
         sitting upon a twisted throne
         made up of broken promises
         and empty apologies
         of things undone and unsaid
         of forgotten faith and deceit
My court is filled with shades
         memories of emptiness
         they whisper in my ears
         the sweet sounds of consonance
         that tumble from their lips
         into a sea of insincerity
I survey my kingdom with furrowed brow
         a land of barren dust
         unharvested intentions that have rot
poisoned waters with shores of rock
         stagnant ponds choked with regret
fertile soils long eroded to sand
Haughty in my seat with silken robes
         my crown of braided maybes
         that leaves scars of lament
         my scepter shines of hindsight
my sword is rusted and impotent
my shield is broken and buckled
I am a king of nothing
         that has reaped everything sown
         every chance not taken
         has come to fruition
the dreams of youth still locked away
within the boy I walled up long ago
