Another view on the everyday activity of wearing make up
The world is cold
And people colder
The mask I wear
Becomes bolder and bolder

I paint it on
Each day of my life
Cover the tears,
Hide from the strife

First the eyes
Outlined in black
Now add the color
Don’t hold it back

Hide the spots
No one can see
Hide everything
That stands out as me

Trace the lips-
Make fuller than they are
Add the glitter
To shine like a star

Take a step back
See what the mirror shows
Hold my breath
Behind the ribbons and bows

This mask I wear
To fit in on my own
But behind my mask
I still feel alone

So I step back to the sink
The water starts to run
Splashed upon my face
To undo what I’ve done
