The sky is clear tonight.
Looking at The Fire

I want to go outside and look at the fire,
that collection of energy that intrigues
and causes many of us to move inwards,

where we all move in unison as the earth
moves around the sun and through the cosmos
of nothingness, stars circling nothingness.

I want to go inside and look at the fire,
that collection of words and thoughts that
causes many of us to want to go outside.

But we stay inside and look through the window
at the outside that we want to get away
from, as if inside was the opposite of outside.

I want to go outside and look at the fire,
that collection of energy that intrigues
and moves many of us to inward causes,

Many of us want to go beyond where we
started, beyond the fire of love to the fire
of now, the now of all that is within ever

lasting love and loving kindness without the
benefit of wishing that we were forever now,
forever again and forever again again, as if

I could keep repeating the words forever and again,
but I can’t. Instead, all I can do is take a
deep breath and realize that this is all a

simple part of what I previously called
“the now,” and as I realize that I know more
deeply that I am about ready to die.

I want to go outside and look at the fire,
that collection of energy that intrigues
and causes many of us to suddenly die,

to suddenly die inside yet be reborn,
born again and again with love and fire,
flitting upwards to the glittery sky above us.
