man vs. technology
blinking
a vertical adversary sits in front of me
his constant blinking nagging so impatiently,
i can imagine two beady little eyes
staring intently almost glaring through me.

he tasks me, as if he had two arms
that could at his command reach out
and with a fury of their own, shake me

the opposition to horizontal however small
at the moment seems to have a great
power over my life in this present world

no speech, just blinking; he communicates
apparently this little opponent
has no legs or feet
for he either cannot or will not depart

why do you flog my mind with the whip
of hurriedness? would not a gentle caress do?
perhaps the language of my lips are not
the words common to you

i have heard that life is ten percent action
and ninety percent reaction. perhaps then;
i have been a poor judge of character.

could it be that instead of an angry foe
with nagging, blinking eyes. you are the opposite;
a friend that has a message of hope
a reminder found in your shape of verticalness

below you is the object that keeps ticking away
counting down the minutes as you blink at me

above is a simple little metal plate, with three words
PRAYER CHANGES THING
