developing gratitude towards God's benevolence and mercy engenders satisfaction
I brought my eyes to close,

Joined together my palms,

And in pacific silence,

Chanted the holy psalms.

I prayed everyday,

And did so at length,

I wanted from life,

a hundred per-cent.

I thought it would take some time,

Maybe years altogether,

I wondered if He(God) ever heard them,

I grew sad and sadder.

Fleeting time dismayed my soul,

There was nothing that could mend it,

I impugned his existence,

Trying desperately to defend it.

Patience is a virtue,

Which comes to a chosen few,

I thought I had a tad of it,

‘Patience’ I would eschew.

I tried some sycophancy,

Perhaps, it would do,

I called Him ‘O! most benevolent’,

It wasn’t enough to ‘woo.’

Out of the blue one day,

A thought struck my head,

It perturbed me no more,

Made me wise instead.

I harked back those prayers,

And in exaltation I sighed,

as I was astonished to find,

None of them belied.

God seldom overlooks,

but often overhears our prayer,

and before we shall realize,

we already have our share.

Neither mortal tongue can utter,

Nor mortal mind conjure

Anything beyond God’s charity

God’s charity’s galore.
