Mothers lifelong struggle of acceptance
She was never mine

She came through me

Our hearts beat side by side

But she was never mine.

I was the vessel for nine months

Protected and nurtured her.

My love for her without limit

But she was never mine.

All loved her from the start

Friends familly under her spell

With time her audience would grow

But she was never mine

Many times I was reminded

of her independence and strength.

Her will always prevailed

but she was never mine.

It took a lifetime of mistakes

Trying to grow closer to her

I never got it.  I never understood

Why she would never be mine.

Loving her, being loved by her

Have only prooved one thing

All along she had been mine

But she would always be her own.
