A poem dedicated to my first daughter
In the beginning,
You were like a butterfly in my tummy,
My life was filled with good I was so elated,
I was going to be a mommy,
I wanted to do the best I could.
I watched you grow inside of me
Each and every day,
The feeling that I had for you
No words could ever say.
You kicked and poked and turned about
My heart could not believe
This little thing inside of me
This life I did conceive.
My love for you it only grew
With the first breath you did make
I looked into your eyes and thought
This love no one could take.
My heart it swelled ten times its size
As each day I watched you grow,
In my arms I kept you safe,
I never wanted to let you go.
You grew and grew I felt so proud
With every passing year
I tried so hard to be there with you,
Through laughter, joy, and tears.
Sometimes still, I want to hold you close
When I can feel your pain
To keep you safe in my arms
Just like before again.
In my heart you will always be
My little girl inside,
So if I seem a little much,
It’s my love for you I hold with pride.
So don’t forget, a mother’s love
Is something that is strong
It’s something that grabbed hold of my heart
And will last your whole life long.
Love you Forever and always... MOM
