Sometimes we have to take things one day at a time...
One more day she opens her eyes
And declares that there will be no more tears to cry
She laid her body to rest
And prayed that the pain would be taken off her chest
She left the past laying on her pillow
When she rose she was reborn fresh
Like a newborn baby emerging from a mother’s womb
Opening its eyes for the first time
And taking its first breath
One more day she will rise
And be thankful for another chance to open her eyes
Another day she has survived
No longer contained by the pain of the previous days
No more running away
She’s dealt with the consequences she’s had to face
And decided to live life at her own pace
One more day she smiles at her reflection staring back at her
And loves what she sees
And is proud of what she has grown to be
No longer concerned with anyone else’s perception of perfection
She is comfortable in her own skin and knows every flaw and imperfection
And loves every single one of them
And herself outside and within
One more day
To be thankful for the past
The pain
The rainy days
And to know that the clouds will soon break
Into sun shining rays that warm a heart that was once cold
And fill it with the love that she had never known
That now overflows with the love of life and appreciation
Because through all of her sorrows and devastations
She knows she did not have to make it
One more day to one more year
One more day she smiles at life with no more tears
One more day
She is still here
