This piece is about wondering where a family will be in twenty years.
I sit here and I look around
At all my family
And thought about where we would be
In five or ten or twenty years.

Abbie, who is now sixteen,
Will most likely be
A musician or a writer,
Or most likely both,
And will excel in all.

The twelve-year-old, our Lydia,
The peacemaker always,
Will probably be
A loving wife and mother
And will be loved by all.

Zachary, who is ten right now,
I can see becoming
An engineer or carpenter,
Or maybe a mechanic,
But will still be our Zach.

Our football player, our young Luke,
Who is just seven years old,
Plays football almost every day,
And wants to be a star
I wish him all the best.

Jacob, our own sweet little boy,
Who will be six this spring,
Is not quite sure what he wants from life,
But no matter what he picks,
He will still be our brown-eyed boy.

Sadie just turned four years old,
And wants to be an artist,
Or maybe a princess.
The former is more likely to happen,
But I wish her her luck on both.

The baby, Chloe, is eighteen months,
Of course is not sure quite yet,
But I know she'll always be
My little brown-eyed baby
With a sweet baby smile to match.

As I look at all my family,
And wonder where we'll be
In five or ten or twenty years,
I pray that they will find
What they all are looking for,
But that they will forever remember
The home where they were born and raised,
And that they will always come home.
