Response poem about being deceived by love
For Ben Johnson’s, Lovel’s Song

It was beauty that I saw,
One defined creature, lust to blame.
  Aphrodite’s love had no shame.
I loved ‘til my heart beat raw.
Kindled flame, fanned in awe.

A curious form without a fault.
Love’s blind deceit, lead my heart astray.
My soul died a little that day.
Lovers leave, a pillar of salt.
Perfect beauty came to halt.

Lovel’s Song
by, Ben Johnson

It was a beauty that I saw,
So pure, so perfect, as the frame
Of all the universe was lame,
To that one figure, could I draw,
Or give least line of it a law!

A skein of silk without a knot!
A fair march made without a halt!
A curios form without a fault!
A printed book without a blot!
All beauty, and without a spot!
