Working thru chronic pain
where are my dreams when i need them most
and not just the dreams we see in our heads
in the dark of night

my dreams have become shattered, broken
my life seeming to be torn apart
a few years ago life set a blow
that began to tear at the fabric of my soul

like a bird
caught in a cage
beneath a shroud
forced to be quiet
forced to be subdued

i see the hole in front of me
been their before
quite a few times

they say knowledge brings power
perhaps this knowledge will be my weapon
to never let go

scared of the black pit
know i do not want it
see the slippery tether
keeping me sane

grabbing hold
with shaking hands
and when my hands give out
i bite the tether with all my might

refuse to fall
for knowledge is power
and that power will give me strength

strength to care
strength to love
strength to live

though the tunnel is long and dark
knowledge is power
to know a light will show
to lead me out

grasping the tether
wrapping it around my wrist
never give up
life is to precious
a hard lesson learned long ago
