Trials of the Bloodstone is an epic dark fantasy novel
She found herself once again surrounded by mist only this time there was actual scenery besides the mists itself.
She was slowly walking through a cemetery littered and clustered with tombstones so tightly packed together it was hard to not trip over one.
As the mists swirled around her ankles and up her back she shuddered and placed her arms around her waist for she suddenly felt very cold. This place had a sense of foreboding and dread that chilled her to her the very core.
Her bare feet moved through the dead grass and she could feel it poke her heels. She ignored the minor discomfort for the deeper she traveled into cemetery the sense of fear creeping into her began to get worse. She could feel it now in the pit of her stomach and the small tiny hairs on her neck and arms began to rise.
Where was she? What cemetery was this that sent such a chill through her?
As she continued through she was able to make out the outline of a familiar black shadow. This looked like the same shadow from her previous journey into the mists the one who had helped her up and looked just like the man who had been in her room that one night.
Then she heard the soft whisper of a familiar name…
Selana…It said to her as if the mists had grabbed a hold of the words and drifted them over to her.
She slowly walked over to the figure for she was drawn to it every time she saw it and she did not know why.
As she got closer the mists seemed to grow thicker around her and the shadow billowing in from out of nowhere and growing as thick as a soup.
She was still able to make out the outline but that was all as she came to be only arms length from it. She stood there and the chilling cold she felt seemed to subside while she was standing in front of him and for this she felt a sudden wash of relief.
She reached her hand out and as she did the shadow did the same. She saw a man’s hand break through the mist to take her own and through the brief touch she felt even more comforted and safe. She felt him slowly and gently pulling her in towards itself and she did not resist as she slowly walked forward.
Just as she was standing pressed up against the shadowy individual the mists parted with such speed it seemed as if they had been…frightened.
The face that was revealed when the mists broke apart was so terrifying she could see why the mists had fled.
Staring back at her was a visage so horrid and frightening she couldn’t help but let out a scream. It sounded more like a croak in her throat and for some reason the scream didn’t want to come out from her mouth.
The face of the individual staring back at her was completely bald with huge bulging eyes that looked as if they were going to pop out their sockets. Red vein like lines surrounded the pupils which were burning blood red in color.
The skin on the face was stretched and pulled so tightly across the skull she couldn’t believe it didn’t just split in half. The mouth was the most disturbing visage for it was wide open as if in a permanent scream of sheer terror and had absolutely no teeth in the mouth.
She tried to pull away so she could turn around and run but the formerly warm and inviting touch was now gripping her like death itself in a hold that was so painful she fell down to her knees.
A feeling of terror over came her so greatly that she couldn’t help but pull her knees up to her chest and with the arm that wasn’t being grasped by the thing that had her she wrapped it around her pulled in legs.
She began to rock back and forth uncontrollably and then she heard it…a loud and menacing laugh that didn’t come from the one that had its hold on her…but from the very mists itself….
