A short interesting folktale about how jealousy makes you nasty through a crocodiles view!
The jealous crocodile’s husband The jealous crocodile’s husband

Once upon a time long ago in the land of fantasies lived a crocodile across the river and an intelligent monkey peacefully in his tree-house next to a small tree that bore delicious bananas.

The monkey loved bananas and would pick a few each day. He didn’t have many friends but was very content with his life.

One fine day, a crocodile swam up to the monkey’s tree-house and told the monkey that he had travelled a long distance and was in search of food as he was literally dying from hunger. The kind and generous monkey offered the croc a couple of bananas in a basket. The crocodile enjoyed them very much and asked the monkey whether he could come again for some more fruit simply to chat. The kind and generous monkey happily agreed.

The crocodile returned day after day and soon the two became very good friends. They discussed their lives, history, their friends and family, and joked about the good old days when they had they were in school and very mischievous, like all friends do. The crocodile told the monkey about his lovely wife that lived on the other side of the river. So the kind monkey offered him some extra bananas to take home to his wife. The crocodile’s wife loved the bananas and made her husband promise to get her some every day.

Meanwhile, the friendship between the monkey and the crocodile deepened as they spent more and more time together. The crocodile’s wife grew green with envy. She wanted to put an end to this friendship which stole her husband during the day. She decides that she simply must.

She started wondering whether her husband could really be friends with a monkey because what kind of monkey could be friends with a crocodile? Her husband repeatedly tried to convince her that he and the monkey shared a true friendship like no other. The crocodile’s wife was now frustrated and boasting with anger. She then thought that if the monkey was on a diet of only bananas, his flesh must be very tasty. So she asked the crocodile to invite the monkey to their house.

The crocodile was discontented about this. He tried to make the excuse that it would be easier said than done and that the monkey would refuse to come. But his wife, determined to eat the monkey’s flesh, thought of a plan.

One morning, she pretended to be very ill and told the crocodile that the doctor said that she would only recover if she ate a monkey’s heart. If her husband wanted to save her life, he must bring her his friend’s heart.

The crocodile was appalled. He was in a dilemma. On the one hand, he loved his dear friend the monkey. And on the other, he could not possibly let his wife die. The crocodile’s wife threatened him saying that if he did not get her the monkey’s heart, she would surely die.

Poor old crocodile had no choice. He had been with his wife for as long as he can remember and loved her dearly. So the crocodile went to the monkey’s tree-house and invited the monkey to come home to meet his wife. He told the monkey that he could ride across the river on the crocodile’s back. The monkey happily agreed.

As they reached the middle of the river, the crocodile slowly began to sink. The monkey, now filled with terror and his heart racing faster a racing car, asked him why he was sinking. The crocodile explained that he would have to kill the monkey to save his wife’s life. The intelligent monkey thought that the only way to get out of this is to quickly cook up a little white lie and use reverse psychology against the croc. The monkey told him that he would gladly give up his heart to save the life of the crocodile’s wife, but he had left his heart behind in the tree-house. He asked the crocodile to make haste and turn back so that the monkey could go get his heart.

The daft crocodile swiftly swam back to the tree-house. The monkey scampered up the tree to safety. He told the crocodile to tell his wicked wife that she had married the biggest fool in the whole wide world!

The morale of the story is that jealousy makes you nasty and if you aspire to do evil then you will not succeed and turn out to be the biggest fool in the world. Follow the right path and make the right decisions.
