A poem about the troubling times that we are facing in South Africa.
Silent night, all is calm, all is bright.
WAKE UP! Everything’s not alright!
Your car alarm is screeching in the drive-way
And criminals run free: “not guilty” as they say.
A pleasure-seeking and power-hungry
Official is the leader of your Tree-
House-Club. With the same breathe he makes
Promises and tells jokes, while he takes
The love out of this country and turns it
Into something that can fill his pocket
And his pride. Yet, we remain silent
Too scared to speak, to act. Violent,
Are the feelings in my heart when
I think of the fact that silly men
Bullshit our youth into thinking
That this ship is far from sinking.
STAND UP! Everything’s not alright!
Something is dark in this land of light!
