A poem about choosing a path in life and the influence of relatives and friends.
They say I can do anything I want.
The sky's the limit,
but what if I want to go to Mars?
What if I want to explore the darkened space
and dance with the stars?
They say I can sing,
That I'm incredibly talented.
They pay for lessons,
But when I say I wish to be a star,
To sing and shine on stage,
They discourage.
They say I'm smart
but I set the bar
just a little too high.
But the bars not to high,
Not even out of reach.
It's just not what they want.
What do they want?
If I wished to be a doctor,
They'd say that was great.
If I wished to be a lawyer
They'd push the hard work on to my plate.
But if I wish to be a star.
No,
I won't be applying myself.
I won't ever reach it.
The bar's too high
The limit is the sky.
