Dilemma of an educated Indian woman
Freedom to dream …

Freedom is my birthright, as a nation we are free,
But are we really?

When I was young..

Don’t show your teeth
Don’t talk to any boy
Home to School and back
Behave coy

Learn to cook ,
Learn to adjust
Put down the book
Knowledge is not a must

For you are a woman
You belong to another man
So I started to dream
Of a prince and the freedom to be.

Then I got married..

To a person who loved me,
Unfortunately his family did not,
No love , No welcome
Misery was all I got..

No talents, No manners,
No money, No presents
“What have your parents given you?”
One of the constant taunts..

Years and Years later,
After the kids and no career,
My prince turns around,
This is his house he says..

For I am a woman
Should I hang on?
Or should I hold my head high
And dream to be free, to be on my own?
