This is a poem I wrote after mimicking the style of Maya Angelou in her poem "My Guilt".
For years my people have gone unheard.
Rapings, murders, lynchings to pass time.
And we never uttered a word,
Instead we sat in line,
Absent of a piece of mind.

My heroes yell from the depths of their lungs,
We fight back silently through the shed of each tear.
Cemataries are trees from where my brothers hung,
The acceptance of the gift of fear,
Is the only response they want to hear.

MY people are forever in my heart.
And MY pride won't let me live,
Unless my eyes see a new start.
THESE truths, are all I give.
All men are created equal, in the fantasies I live.
