Struggling to do the right thing for someone you love.
I know what to say
To make this all go away,
But is a lie the right wrong?
Will it help you stay strong?
I know the truth hurts,
But is deception worse?
Will the truth make you stronger,
Erase the pain or prolong it?

I know what to say
To make your hope go away,
But I can’t extinguish the light
In the pitch black night,
So I’ll hold this lantern steady
At least ‘til you’re ready.

You know what to say
In order to make me stay,
But you won’t reach out,
And you won’t ask for help.
You’ll just watch me go
Even though we both know
Right now, you need me the most.
