A short story about a young girls love for someone she knows nothing about.
Chapter Seven

It was very much a two guy, one girl situation. She walked in between the two boys. She fluttered her eyelashes and smiled sweetly. Sam Bird was all over her. He was surprisingly perverted for an arty and creative type. She bought you both a lolly each and she twisted her tongue over hers, grinning at Sam and Marcus. Marcus looked oddly at her when she was doing this, it was like he seemed a bit put off. Then he went straight back to the chatting up. He was a very confusing boy. He made you all wait outside while he went into an off-licence. He came out with a plastic bag and glass bottle and a plastic bottle, both containing clear blue liquid. He emptied the blue plastic bottle and poured the contents of the glass one into it then threw the glass one into the bin. You had no idea what he was doing but the other two smiled widely, Natalie even clapped,

“Oh my God!” She said, “I’d never had thought that!”

“What’s he done?” You asked Sam, blushing slightly as he looked at you; he had piercing blue eyes,

“He put WKD in a powerade bottle. It’s the same colour so you can’t tell the difference.” You were still confused,

  “What’s WKD?”

“Oh my God, you poor girl!” Natalie said, pityingly. She passed you the powerade bottle and you hesitated before taking a swig. Remembering what had happened last time you drank whilst in the company of Marcus. What the hell, you thought, this was your big chance to impress people and finally stop being a nerdy nobody. You took a swig, and, unlike the pure vodka before, this tasted wonderful. Sweet and like blueberries, like blue sweets and like bubblegum. You couldn’t help yourself, you took another, and another. “Okay, slow down!” Natalie grinned. You smiled back,

“Sorry,” You passed it back to Marcus, “Well, it beats the other stuff!” You exchanged a warm smile.

It took a few minutes but soon, instead of their being one girl and two guys...then another girl tagging along behind, there were two couples, chatting and flirting. You found yourself much more relaxed, and words just flowed out of your mouth. You were walking next to Marcus. You were walking very close to him. You were just talking about random stuff, school, work, exams, bitching a little about some of the girls in your year. He was telling you about his glamorous life back in LA. You barely noticed when you walked into a restaurant. You went to a table upstairs and sat down next to Natalie. The two boys went off to the loo.

  “You having fun?”

“Yeah!” You smiled, not making eye contact.

“Listen babe,” She laid a hand on your shoulder, “You need to loosen up a little bit!” You smiled another one of your empty smiles. You didn’t know why you were so tense. When you were with Marcus before you were a lot calmer and chilled out. It was maybe because you were out, in town, with some cool people, in Cafe rouge. And it was such a strange territory to you. She pulled another bottle of the blue WKD out of Marcus’s plastic bag and you sat under the table, sharing it.

“Marcus really likes you, you know,” She said earnestly, you giggled,

  “Don’t be silly! No way!”

“Alright girls?” A face appeared under the table when you were. You fell about laughing, holding each other as you giggled.

“Yeah!” You both nodded, still giggling. You sat up together at the table. On the only other occupied table on the top floor, the elderly couple were staring at you. You saw the wrinkly old lady shake her head disdainfully.

“Decided what you’re gonna have?” Marcus sat down next to you, Sam, next to Natalie. You picked up the menu, and the situation got suddenly much worse.

“Yeah, I can’t afford any of this. I only just have enough for a glass of water!” You said under your breath to him.

  “I’ll pay for you,”

  “Oh no, that’s fine!”

“No really,” He took his leather Gianni Versace wallet out of his blazer pocket and opened it showing you layers and layers of twenty pound notes. “Let me pay.” You smiled uncomfortably.

  “No, I wouldn’t feel right.” He leaned in close to you so he could whisper softly into your ear;

“How about if I buy lunch today, you buy lunch on Saturday,” Your heart nearly stopped still. A date. A real date. Oh My God! This was the most incredible thing that had ever happened to you, EVER. You’d never even held a boys hand before in your life. Now, a really hot boy was asking you on a date! It was amazing! Oh My God! Wow! Then you remembered; you were grounded until next Monday.

“Umm...” You went a little pink, “I’m grounded, remember when you gave me lift?” He seemed to think for a second,

“Oh yeah, that certain incident, that was ages ago!”

“I was grounded for ages! Until next Monday!”

“Ouch!” He grinned. His smiled was so enchanting. You felt like almost anything was possible if he just kept on smiling.

“And it’s all your-” You hissed,

“When you two have finished flirting, we’re gonna order!”

“Oh yeah,” You blushed, “I don’t think I’ll have anything actually, I’m not really hungry!” Marcus laid a confident arm around your shoulder,

“Don’t sweat it girlfriend! I’ll get whatever you want!” You took another swig of the blue drink,

“Well, okay then, if you’re sure!” He smiled dangerously,

  “Of course I’m sure!”

He didn’t remove the arm from your shoulders but with more and more WKD you grew to like it more and more.
