A poem about finding new love in an old friend and closing the door to the past.
                                                                                Wings of White
                                                                            by Brandon McClaskey

She took flight with her wings of white,
Saw my heart that was made of ice,
And melted it with her blessid eyes.
She's an angel that addressed my cries.
And I know she seems a little helpless, right?
But, that's just what she sells to guys.
Truth is, she's so much stronger than most of them.
I know this because I've known her since we were close to ten.
Since then, the list of beautiful things about her has only grown.
I opened the door to my, too familiar, lonely home,
Looked around and noticed something different than I have ever seen.
I'm finally standing on a yard where the grass is completely green.
I've learned a lot, living here, so I could never really knock it.
I put the key in the box, hanging from the knob, and locked it,
Wrote a note apologizing for leaving such a huge mess.
Then, I asked to have as much of the best,
Memories they could find, forwarded to my new address,
Turned around, decided not to look back, and just left.
