A mirror reflection of life's many challenges
Who is this woman staring back at me?
What does she know and what does she see?
Who let her in and gave her a key?
Can someone help me solve this mystery?

Have we met before and if so, what’s your name?
Or is this some sick joke or some silly game?
Why are you just standing there looking lame?
Speak up! Your silence is driving me insane!

Just because you’re old don’t mean a thing
I’ve made grown men cry and made them sing
I’ve endured childbirth and endured the ring
Lived a life of pure hell but yet, I’m still standing

So what if I’m not the sweet girl I used to be
Life’s hard lessons has left me so very angry
A prisoner in a cage I am no longer free
Consumed with hate, I’m my worst enemy

Are those tears I see rolling down your face?
Is it pity you feel or is it disgrace?
Did you forget it was you who invaded my space?
Wait! Those eyes, I’ve seen them someplace

Could it be true that you are me and I am you?
Just a mirrored reflection of the pain we’ve gone through
Is this what hate and anger turns one into?
My God, please, I beg you, don’t let it be true

Starting tomorrow I promise I'll change my ways
No more will I let past hurts set me ablaze
I’ll replace hate with love and the inner-me I’ll betray
Also did I mention that tomorrow is my birthday?
