A free-verse poem that likens morality to a spectrum.
My perception of the world.
It varies,
day by day.
On occasion in full color,
now in shades of gray.

Pervading,
lingering,
ever-present.
A gradient caught between two extremes.

Blank, pure white,
of life, peace,
and angel wings.
All-consuming black,
of mourning, death,
and awful things.

And yet I’m caught between them,
unable to choose,
between the light and
the dark.

Morality?
It’s all just degrees.
Shades.
These shades of gray,
through which
I see the
world.
