Poem based on how difficult it can be sometimes, when two hearts are away from each other.

My oh my
My wandering eye
As if my love
Could not satisfy
He’s gone for a long while
I cope with a forced smile
But my oh my
My wandering eye

I am too easily flattered
By the kind-hearted callers
My thoughts for a certain one
Are scattered
He thinks me a doll, but does not know at all
That my heart is with another
My love, who is away til the fall

It’s hard to bring up such an issue
Near impossible to tell him with sincerity
That I belong to my love, and only my love
I cannot break my fidelity
When he looks to me I know
He is cherishing the moment so entirely

He’s never been inappropriate
Has not tried to win my affections
If my love were here
I don’t rightly fear
My sentiment would be cast in my love’s direction
But with absence the heart grows fonder
With absence the heart grows lonely
With absence, one’s eyes might wander
It gets harder to say “my one and only”

I would never go behind the back
Of someone who I call my love
Patience is a virtue I often lack
This challenge I hope to rise above

In a few months time, I will know
If staying or leaving is the path to forego.
