Written after enjoying a summer evening with my family
“Our Porch
by Mark Hospes
June, 2007

Tonight we sat on our porch;
Michelle, me and Dylan;
I read a book by Bradbury,
Michelle read the paper, quoting,
“11, not 10 things to in an elevator”
Dylan posed for pictures.
Time seemed perfect, unmoving, eternal.
But, out shadows grew longer,
The sun sank, Time slipped;
My perfect moment on the porch;
Relaxing, Family, Laughter, Love,
Faded with the day;
Why can’t I make it last?
Why can’t I pause the clock?
Time trapped; Unmoving, Frozen.
Then, Dylan went to bed,
Michelle went inside,
And I’m alone with the echoes
