Noticing life and reflecting on the past
Sunset comes, full with color and peace,
and another day is gone.
I heard the end in the stillness of the leaves;
the moment lost forever in the coming of tomorrow
and the next day, and the next, etc.......

I saw the faces of the children laughing.
I heard music coming from moving cars
and dogs barking at other dogs and people.
I felt time change
as if God had just whispered life
into a child.

Where did the day go?
It was here a moment ago in all its glory,
bursting with noise, flooded by sunlight,
and caught in the cool wind smelling of pine needles and dirt.

Something told me to cherish the view;
to paint the sunset upon my heart
and embrace that memory
for someday it would become part
of the music in my soul.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to yesterday
when I was sitting on my front porch stoop,
content with the world around me,
listening to the day,
watching time change,
and knowing in 7 months
I would be bringing a child
in my world.
