My ramblings on lost love in classical poetic form - a villanelle.
Haunted Heart
by T Moya

After twenty years apart
I suffer restless nights where
You continue to haunt my heart.

Your smiles stab me from the start.
Should young love wear
After twenty years apart?

I still hear the timid voice I use to impart
My love for you, it’s truly unfair
You continue to haunt my heart.

All the small rejections from then on smart,
But hidden in a box I keep your letters with that cursive flair
After twenty years apart.

Rejection then reconciliation, this cycle becomes our art.
I dream you naked. Your smell fills my air.
You continue to haunt my heart.

Can I give so little? The answer. You find another and depart.
Lying in the dark. I wonder. How long does lost love fuel despair?
After twenty years apart
You continue to haunt my heart.
