Life of a parent with a closed head injury- in a villanelle
I must write it down on a fucking list

The paper can hold what falls out my brain

Appointments and chores I surely have missed

The notes that I write would surely assist

me.  My children all know I’m a little insane

I must write it down on a fucking list

Yelling at caseworkers I must resist

Years full of long nights that I absorb pain

Appointments and chores I surely have missed

It’s not so bad I would slit my own wrists

I do not leave myself out in the rain

I must write it down on a fucking list

I remember each morning when I am kissed

What sanity lacks, my heart would not wane

Appointments and chores I surely have missed

Each time I break down it gets me so pissed

Head injury is forever my bane

I must write it down on a fucking list

Appointments and chores I surely have missed
