Short prose piece about reconnecting with one's self.
Tonight I indulge my dreamer.
I sit near the open window
Feel the rainy breeze
Stare at the moon
And let it draw me into nature’s larger cycle.
I nurture this exhausted heart
Until it’s brave and capable again.

Tonight is slow night
When I remember the human, not the robot;
The living, not the survival.
I cherish the fragrant candle
And let the mesmerizing light remind me of other gifts-
A friend’s laughter, a pet’s purr.

My path has wound
Around life’s uncontrollable and disconcerting jags.
But this night is as straight as I desire
Created to end in a feasting spirit.
It’s an imaginary storybook city
But necessary
For letting that invisible organ – the soul
Dine
And digest.
