free verse poem about the destruction of a facade
The Beautiful Lie

it begins so
cautiously
it might not be
happening:
fragments slowly
disengaging,
drifting,
falling.
for now it's easy
to pretend,
it's easy to
push it away
and forget.
but the fragments
gather speed,
the facade is
crumbling,
it's getting harder
to contatin.
it spills out of
the sunlight,
meeting the ground
with a deadly
thunder.
it's too late to
pick up the pieces,
too late to
deny it.
the beautiful lie
has betrayed you,
surrendering to gravity
as harsh proof
of your failure.
and now among the
rubble
you are hopelessly
exposed.
