This is to fellow drug and alcohol addicts. Written originally for writing.com.
I cannot begin to explain
The guilt I feel, the pain
Unclear, why I was immersed in alcohol and drugs
Can simply be summed up with shoulder shrugs.
The only way I have been able to maintain, is restored love and many hugs.

Friends and family are there despite your belief
I know this now from sobriety, what a sigh of relief
I know it's not easy my friend, my peer
How accustomed we become to opening another beer
It's never too late to turn over that leaf, and let your worries begin to clear.

It's not easy at first, I promise you that
But if you're life is unmanageable it's empty, flat
There are no ups, no downs
You're not living life taking leaps and bounds
If it's too much just combat, for escapism only compounds.
