I wrote this a few months after I found out my boyfriend of 5 years was cheating on me.
How does my brush,
Work for her hair?
Do my old brunette locks,
Clash with the blond?
Her hair flows
Like a calm river
Touched by the sun,
Untouched by the wild
Mine has too much to it,
Like a dam, splashing around
Unmanageable, like you.
Five years spent
Letting you in
You waited until you had it all,
Before you shut it down
You think hearts are like candy
Just pass the bag along
Share the love like sugar.
There is some for everyone
You give her more than me
I waited a month for the call
I waited to answer my phone
I waited like a cat
Ready to pounce on the ring
I never knew her ex,
Would be the call I’d want.
I never knew he’d be the one,
To tell me your truths
To tell me there’s a new
Toothbrush in your holder
I never knew the cowardly lion
would be my love.
I hope you don’t get bored,
with the quiet river
I can tell you when
You want to explore
Stay away from the jungle,
The only lions that roam here
Are the ones that have a medal,
A medal that read courage
Courage to face me.
