The love of Death
Scythe ~

My light has burned longer than all of the stars above
I was made in the beginning, with tenderness and love

Time went by and many miracles these eyes have beheld
I watched God create the heavens and earth, for six days he never failed

On the sixth day he happily rested, for there was no more to do
It was then that he pulled me aside, and said that “I have a job for you”

Given to me was what was once thought to be a simple task
I was honored to be chosen, and in the glory did I bask

The Lord taught me all about the earth, everything from humans to the magpie
Then told me that it was not made perfect, and all must one day die

This is my task, a messenger from the Lord in heaven above
I am the angel of death, killing the wicked and the dove

I am not bias, I do not judge, for that is not my place to do
I collect the souls on the list, the sick, the dying, and oh...the elderly too

Many have tried to blind my eye, and keep me away forever
But I’m far too sly, and in the blink of an eye, their souls I do dissever

Oceans of time have drifted by, over many a many a year
But deep within my soul of souls, I begin to fear...

That I was made imperfect too, cursed with the human stain
I have begun to sense feelings, the likes I can’t explain

I begin to feel joy, when I see each baby boy, smile at his parents for the very first time
And each little girl, precious as a pearl, learning as they read her a rhyme

Far too many of these little ones, are taken much too soon
Never even having a chance at life, some never seen the moon

Why have you done this to your messenger, O Lord in heaven above?
Why have you shown this to me, the miracle known as love?
