A young lady waiting for her lost love
The wind whipping through your hair
while brilliant orange flowers stand tall
among the grass that dances at your feet.
The powder blue sky and lush white clouds
radiate from behind the rolling green hills.
There is so much beauty to behold
but it’s beauty you can’t be bothered with.
You’re waiting for something more.
Watching for the rust colored dust to rise off the
red dirt road as that old pick up truck
appears bigger and bigger. Waiting for that boy
to emerge from the truck with his rich brown curls and
eyes that match the sky. You long to see that
smirk again, to lace your fingers with his.
But you keep waiting, anticipating his return
While the promises he left you with
keep spinning in your head.
