On a bitter frosty night, the smell of other people's dinner seems to tease you home.
Numb fingers and toes;

And still so very far to go.

Peering in at the snugly settled;

Jealous of those already nestled.

Tangerine glows hug those inside;

Only pride comforts me on this side.

Mummies clang pots and pans;

As I nurse chapped lips and hands.

Another’s supper on a bitter wind;

Teasing those of us not yet in.

Dinner, dinner, dinner!

The icy town simmers.

A pause.

And then a bang, bang, bang!

Little feet pound wooden hills;

And balk at their green meals.

I shiver and shuffle sadly by;

Home bound under a frosty sky.

Frozen little fingers;

Damn! How winter lingers.
