How we can bring children into our world these days? Here is my poetic response!
When They Ask Why… Tell Them

My daughters;
sleep tonight.
Warm,
safe,
dreaming,
innocent.
Your world,
so small and tender,
closed off to demons
who would prey on you
like vampires.
You remain invisible to their searching eyes
and oblivious to their existence.

Why were you brought here?
Amidst this violence and chaos,
this world lacking in integrity and empathy,
where national heroes reduce themselves to
common criminals?

The question has been asked of me
more than once.
Why?
I will tell you why.
The world is sick,
languishing,
ill,
possibly terminally so,
dying like the light of day
ambushed by oncoming night.
The sun,
sinking
slowly at first
then quicker
until darkness is all that remains.

The world coughs
and heaves black smoke
and blood.
Our land,
our water,
overrun with our own arrogance and
self-created poisons,
absorbed through our pores
breathed into our souls
til we bleed
filth,
misery,
toxicity.

So why?
I will tell you.
The world needs healing.
If we are to survive,
we must save our mother.
The time is now for
Heroes and heroines.
And they are you.
They Are YOU.

When they ask why,
Tell them.

My daughters;
sleep tonight.
Warm,
safe,
dreaming,
innocent.

When they ask why,
tell them;
the time is now for
Heroes and Heroines.
They are you.
