An autobiographical poem I wrote for a competition here (that had already shut!).
It's easy to date when I wrote this poem by the age I say I am, and the book I had just written at the time. I wrote it for a competition shortly after arriving here, but I was such a newbie that I didn't even realise the competition had finished! It was wiped when I let my membership lapse, but I just found it in an archive file and thought I'd share it again.

I'm Mark, I'm a pilot who started to write
Whilst stuck in the Falklands one dark, dirty night.
I'm tall and I'm slim with my hair cut quite short.
I guess that's because I'm the milit'ry sort!

I'm married with children, a boy and a girl.
The tales of their antics would make your toes curl!
They're darlings, they're cuties, they're all that and more,
But come to their bedtime - I'm flat on the floor!

I'm older than some, having passed thirty-nine.
I'm starting to grey, but that suits me just fine.
My eyes, when they're open, are bright sapphire blue,
But bloodshot and lined ‘cause I write all night through.

I write when I'm fresh and I write when I'm tired.
I write to relax, so I write when I'm wired!
I mainly write fantasy; stories for teens.
I hope this will make me a man of some means.

I've been there, I've done it, I've seen many sights.
I've been to the op'ra, I've seen men in tights!
It's said I'm a charmer, a laugh and a hoot,
I'm witty and handsome and modest to boot!

My stories have: action, assassins and spies,
A sword forged by magic, a dragon’s demise.
Folks say that I write well, with pace, twists and hooks.
Admit it, you're tempted to go buy my books!
