C'mon, she said, or we're gonna miss everything. Soul prompting owner to live fully.
I let my soul out to play this afternoon.

I let my soul out to play this afternoon.
I smiled at a stranger, struck up a conversation
with an old man in the coffee line at the bookstore,
and even chatted with a co-worker
I’ve never really been fond of.

I was forced to confess
to my smirking little soul,
much as it pained me,
that perhaps she was right;
It wasn’t such a bad idea
to let my soul out to play
once in a while.

Then I heard a whispered “Told you so”
as she prissed off to make a new friend.

I strained at the tugging,
like an owner being dragged by her dog.
It was all I could do just to keep up.

Then I felt a jab in my side
and a giggle bubbling up from within;
my soul’s annoying way
of laughing out loud
at my reluctance to socialize.

“C’mon, silly,” she said,
“If you don’t hurry up,
we’re gonna miss everything!”

So I quickened my pace
and followed her lead,
not wanting her to miss
this important event,
and I must admit that even I
could feel the anticipation building.

After all, my soul
was letting me out to play,
and for once,
I was looking forward
to the adventure.

I'm trying to listen and my soul won't stop chattering with the souls of strangers.
