Perspectives of a young girl who struggles to see her worth.
Life:
How beautiful her heart of gold
And her hands of healing.
How lovely are her feet that follow
And lead to no man’s land.

How wonderful is her life
And her impact on her family
How beautiful she is
And loved by friend and foe.

She possesses freeing knowledge
Within her mind and her spirit.
Her determination will guide her
Anywhere she desires to go.

She can change her world
And her family and friends.
She can do so much,
Yet she cannot see it.

Instead, she sees her pain
And is overcome by hopelessness.
She sees the world’s sorrow
And cripples under the weight.

Death:
She begs me take her
And give her freedom.
She begs for release
For herself and those who love her.

She believes her life a burden
And her thoughts meaningless.
She believes herself unimportant,
Her entire existence loathsome.

Though I sit and watch
Waiting for life to let her go,
I wish I could show her
How she would be missed.

Not only does she have much to offer,
But also is she perfect as she is.
She could give so little to so many,
And still she would know love.

With her existence comes beauty
And love beyond compare.
In her life comes hope
And compassion for all who hurt.

Mother:
From the moment I knew she existed,
I loved her completely.
Even with all the pain and raging hormones,
She was wanted.

When she arrived that day,
I wept with joy.
I rejoiced at the sound of her cry,
And my heart swelled when I held her.

As she grew, so did my love.
When she hurt,
I would hold her
And try to love it all away.

Never did I stop loving her,
Though she tested me.
Even when she said she hated me,
I knew how important she was.

Even today, she matters
More than anything.
Simply be existing,
She captured my heart.

Father:
This bundle of joy so wonderful
And important to me.
If she were in danger,
I would do anything for her.

I love her completely
Simply because she is.
I love how she looks like me
And so much like her mother.

She is so precious
And so complete.
She knows how to love all people
And how to stand on her own.

She can be so strong,
So willful about her desires.
She is almost a superwoman,
Always in a balancing act.

I can only hope she knows
How perfect she already is.
She doesn’t need to be anything,
Especially not a superwoman.

Sister:
My sister is so special.
She is my best friend.
She knows my secrets
And my embarrassing moments.

She gets me
And accepts me.
She doesn’t want me to change,
Only to be me.

We share some things
And don’t most
We fight often
But always make up.

I know I can count on her
To be there when I need her.
I know she loves me
And always will.

I love my sister,
Faults and all.
I love her most
When she just is.

Brother:
I love my sister,
The one who challenges me.
She is amazing
And one of a kind.

We fight and hurt each other
But only in fun.
She does things her way,
And I do mine.

She makes me angry at times
And sometimes laugh.
She is not perfect,
But she is my sister.

She teaches me how to treat girls,
How to respect all people.
I protect her when it is needed
And sometimes when it is unwanted.

When she hurts,
I hope she always remembers
Who we are to each other.
I love you, sis.
