Lena thought back to how she ended up here. Her boyfriend, on the floor of the living room unconscious, and now she had to be the one to hunt down some rare herb to save him. All of the doctors? They were too scared of the haunted forest, anybody offer to go, if not for her, than with her? No, they were too scared as well, and that left her, alone, at night in a haunted forest. There was no denying that people came out here and went missing, that it constantly rained, and despite that, it seemed the forest never flooded.

Lena froze for just second when she heard another howl, but she couldn't run, she might miss the plant she needed for the cure. Instead she pulled out the book the doctors gave her, opened to what the herb looked like and she continued on, ignoring what sounded like this time, a growl.

She looked around, pulling out the gun she brought, and learned how to use, as she bent down to study the leaves of something that looked like what she wanted, but it turned out not to be. She jumped when something touched her shoulder, and jerked around, gun raised. Nothing appeared in sight.

She lowered the gun again, made her way around the tree and spotted several more of the look a likes. She hoped that maybe one of these would be it, but no. The herbs were concentrated is one place in the forest for the most part, she just didn't want to have to go all of the way there, now it looked like she would have to.

She started toward the location that nifty book she brought with her had in it. For a while everything remained silent, but then all at once, she heard something growl from directly in front of her, behind a bush it sounded like, a howl from off to the side, and felt a hand rub against her shoulder. She pulled out the gun, turned, and fired.

The bullet hit something, but she couldn't see what, and she heard a thud as it hit the ground. She bent over with her flashlight and saw drops of blood on the ground. She followed where they were coming from, but it seemed they appeared out of thin air. She debated what to do for a second.

One last growl sounded, and something jumped out, knocking her to the ground. She struggled with it for only a second before remembering the gun. She tried her best to point it in that direction, and fired it once. The creature jumped off of her, allowing her to stand, and ready herself again. But it left after that, disappearing into the woods.

Whatever had howled didn't attack her, and she supposed it merely bided its time and she continued on.

The place glowed, no rain came down, and when she stepped in the light, it looked as if it hadn't been raining on her for the past day or so. She wanted to stop and enjoy it, but she came here to do something, so she looked around, taking her time, and spotted what she needed. She pulled it out of the ground gently, like the book described, and put it in her bag. Now all she needed to do was get out of here.

As she walked through the woods, nothing came after her now, and the rain didn't hurt her. Protection, she realized. It was all protection for that place, now that I'm leaving, the forest doesn't care.

She marched up to the doctor, handing him the herb.

"You made it out," the doctor said, "Amazing."

She paced the room a while later.

Soon her boyfriend came out. "You saved me honey," He said, wrapping his arms around her.

She rolled her eyes at that. "What did you expect?"

Twisted:

Why did she have to be the one to save him? No one else volunteered to go here, not even to help her. She figured this was just a testament to how much she loved him.

She lowered the gun again, made her way around the tree and spotted several more of the look alikes. She hoped the maybe one of these would be it, but no. She shivered. How could a forest rain all the time, but that was one of the reasons people said it was haunted, and the fact that many people never came out once coming in here.

She went deeper into the forest. She knew for certain that with her luck she would only find them in the center, where the map led her. For a while everything remain silent, but then all at once she heard something growl from directly in front of her, behind a bush it sounded like. A howl came from off to the side.
