a poem written for a girlfriend who's father had passed away from cancer.

the silent machines lie dormant along the walls.
equipment and the electricity to run them has stopped.
one by one they pay their last respects.
in a silent nights vigil they waited.
ten years of suffering has finally ceased.
a fragile heart, like a tattered rope, has worn itself thin with time.
the weight of life finally made it snap like so much stress was
burdened on an already frayed line.
scalding tears now burn their cheeks and hearts and brand them fatherless.
