Love is Lost, but we all win in the end. (In English and Spanish)
I Let You

One final play you could not grant,
But bestowed a departure to remember.
Consoling me with one last glance
And leaving emotions scattered.
Tears and merriment of chance
Ended the divine encounter.

You were just a hopeful contender;
More genteel than I had considered.
Waiting for this moment,
I chanced the first kiss as a gambit.
There were no generalities,
We were specific with our bodies.
Discerning every move you made,
And all the words you would not state.

Though you held a shield of a gossamer smile,
Your pain glared from a previous strife.
There was a rumor of your lover leaving you,
One's good luck is another's misfortune.

For you I invented myths of miles
To tender laughter for our lives’ trials.
But all was just an innocent stratagem
To give you courage to win the contest.

It wasn’t your time or mine for conquest,
Perhaps prevails another test to claim.
Whether I had fought or relinquished,
It would have ended just the same –
As reason has nothing is fortuitous,
I thank fate for granting me the game.

Circumstances and opportunities
Can not be flouted or forestalled.
I wear your touch like laurels of victory
To remind me of fortune sought and lost;
And of a freedom that must exist,
If each is to find one’s own cause.

Te Permití
Por Emily Martinez

Un último juego no pudiste conceder,
Pero me otorgaste una partida inolvidable,
Consolándome con una última mirada
Y dejando emociones dispersadas
De lágrimas y alegría del azar,
Terminando el encuentro divino.

Eras un contendiente esperanzado,
Mas fino que había considerado.
Esperando por este momento,
Arriesgué el primero beso como un gambito.
No había generalidades,

Si haya luchado o me haya rendido,
Hubiera acabado igual –

Para recordarme de una fortuna buscada y perdida;
