a teenager drives drunk and dies
Breaking glass
Screeching wheels,
The sight of blood,
A young girl's squeals

What happened?

As the man places the blanket over his face,
He ponders,
"Why didn't you take the chance,
The one to stay alive,
And call your mother?
Did you want to die?"

He stole the car,
He took the beer,
To the yellow line-
He got too near.

He's been to juvie,
too many times,
He's always hated-
To walk the line.

His friends worried,
For years and years
He's done it now,
As they now allow streaming tears.
