Science Experiment (GCSE Level)
Practical assignment

In order to investigate the action of the enzyme catalase, which is found in the liver, on hydrogen peroxide; an experiment was carried out.

The hypothesis is the more concentrated the liver suspension is, the more enzyme there is, so more oxygen will be produced.

A liver suspension was made by liquidising 100g of liver in 100cm3 distilled water. Several dilutions where made in order to get a range of concentrations of the enzyme.

As soon as the suspension was added to the hydrogen peroxide a bung was inserted and the stopwatch was started.
In order to find out how well the enzyme was working, the oxygen that was produced was collected in a small measuring cylinder.
