A poem of honoring those left behind in war. Inspired by a photo of Christian Golczynski
Forgotten Casualties of War

In this time of conflict and war we suffer an inevitable loss
Heroic men and women who serve and pay the ultimate cost
We honor our fallen heroes with holidays and memorials for their sake
But never forget the other victims that get left behind in a wars wake

I speak of the mothers and fathers whose child has laid down their life
I speak of the lonely spouses who have lost their husband or wife
I speak of brothers and sisters whose sibling can't be home where they belong
I speak of the many children left with only memories of a parent now gone

Please never forget all these people and the sacrifice that has been made
And the freedom we all enjoy came at a price that they have paid
To all the people out there who have shed many tears over this pain
We all owe our freedom to you and yours, know your sacrifice is not in vain
