A villanelle I wrote for my wife.
Waking

Through haze of morn I see,
'tween day thoughts dreams of night
soft face and eyes so warm to me.

Whispered songbird sounds take flight,
crying, sighing into the heights.
Through haze of morn I see,

moon gray clouds born of night,
glow tea rose red, blushing bright.
Soft face and eyes so warm to me,

stirring, restless, in my sight,
waking dreams left from night.
Through haze of morn I see,

dawn's pearly robe invades the night,
chasing dappled shadows from our sight.
Soft face and eyes so warm to me,

fix my gaze and hold it tight,
within your smile a seraphim light.
Through haze of morn I see,
soft face and eyes so warm to me.
