As I sail an aging river.....

As I sail an aging river
where shadows are grey and cold,
I look for a bird in the distance,
I hear it's plaintive moan.

In the song there is a sorrow
like hope that is never still.
Through the night the echo lingers,
It wraps me with a chill.

There is pain in every sorrow,
the choices we have are few,
there is pain in always hoping,
Love will return anew.

There is joy in every freedom,
yet each freedom has it's cost.
Wiser men will tell you,
that something will be lost.

There is pain in every shadow,
and in shadow I know pain,
of freedom lost inside me,
and vacancies which remain.

If I find the bend in the river,
may hope be waiting there,
for a journey back into darkness,
would be much too much to bear.
