A poem about a woman waiting at home for her soldier to return from war.
She lies waiting in the tattered remains of what once was
Bathing in the light of yesterday lost
Searching for something she may not find
Suddenly she sees the debt and the cost

Lonely are those who live in the light
Blinded by what they cannot see
Broken and beaten and tossed about
Like a boat lost in the sea

As the clouds roll in and the sun retreats
She whispers into the night
Hopelessly faded and wounded is she
When something clinches her heart so tight

Withered and worn and tired is she
He’s gone to war to roam
Lost and helpless she realizes
He’s never coming home
