This poem is about domestic violence and the cycle of abuse.
“Colors”

Red, purple, blue.
The pain is fresh.
My flesh is swollen with humiliation;
Eyes try and fight to reveal the truth.
Dignity and pride interfere with my safety.
Red;
Red flame;
Red rose;
Rosy cheeks; cheeks are swollen with supposed love
.
Purple;
Purple heart;
Purple skin;
Skin covered with
red, purple.
Blue;
Blue skies;
Blue depression and longing for the disappearance of skin covered in red, purple, and blue.

Green and yellow.
Fragments of yesterday
Hidden underneath;
Under clothing.
Days exhausted with remembrance.
Green;
Green grass;
Green with envy;
Envy of things that are not
.
Yellow;
Yellow sun;
Yellow daisies;
Jaundice.

Brown.
It is further into the future.
The brown plays tricks with reality.
Brown;
Brown dirt to sprout new growth;
Brownies;
The new growth and renewal recur
.
Clear.
Forgotten.
Clear;
Clear skies;
Clear heads.
Awaiting the next
Red, purple, blue,
Green, yellow,
Brown,
Clear.
