A poem in memory of my Grandfather.
Granddad

I sat on your knee, a child in velvet dress;
Time never allowed our memories to grow
But held them fast in a simple scene;
Treats of mint humbugs and fisherman friends,
Little hands eagerly awaited with
Nan’s pea soup and learning to speak.

We played ghosts in the corners of your home;
Hide and seek behind doors and presents
Unwrapped on boxing day, the years we grew.
Stories filled our ears, your past to our future,
How different things were back then,
The strict times and smiles your presence bought
And today your memory brings.
